I started horse riding when I was five years old and my grandad bought me lessons for my birthday. My dad still jokes it's the most expensive present anyone has ever bought me as he was still paying for it years later.
Almost 30 years later I finally decided to try having a horse on full loan- TJ who I'd been loaning a few days a week for the past year or so. I was lucky enough to have part-loaned since I was about 12, but had never been the decision-maker so to speak.
I quickly learned that being in sole charge of a horse is completely different and I had a lot to learn, from deciding which rug to use to getting the right feed to getting the best professionals to look after TJ.
Having spent almost five years working as a personal finance journalist for MoneySavingExpert.com, I decided to combine my skillset and my hobby and attempt to share my learnings with others who might be new to looking after horses, or those looking for some moneysaving tips.
I don't pretend to be an expert on horses, and still learn something new everyday. This site is very much about sharing my research and directing to more knowledgeable sources, all in the hope you may find it useful and interesting.
